San Francisco tenants lost some relief with the rejection of Proposition F at the ballot on June 8th. Proposition F, a local San Francisco measure, would have limited rent increases for anyone in the city who has lost their job or has had a 20% income reduction due to the economic crisis.

On June 3rd, CJJC supported Zachary Norris in the fight to save his home.
A delegation visited Goldman Sachs' offices to support Zachary's efforts to get a loan modification. In addition to the delegation, Zachary rallied his community to do a call-in to Litton Loan Services demanding that he get a permanent loan modification. After Goldman Sachs initially denied Zachary access to their office, Zachary and his supporters were finally able to deliver loan documents that Litton Loan Services previously claimed they had not received. As a result of calls and the picket, Litton finally acknowledged receipt of all modification application documents.

You may have heard that on May 29th, thousands of concerned people will be converging on Phoenix, Arizona to voice their outrage and protest of SB 1070, the racist, anti-immigrant law passed in that state last month. Local organizers have put out the call for people of conscience to come to the mass protest on May 29th, and Causa Justa has decided to make the trip. Why?

On May 1, immigrants took to the streets in massive nationwide protests to demand full equality, legalization, labor rights, and an end to deportations. The marches—the largest this country has seen since 2006— took place on the heels of the passing of SB 1070, the Arizona state law that institutionalizes racial profiling by mandating local police to ask for ID from anyone they think might be undocumented. In Oakland and San Francisco, Causa Justa :: Just Cause joined thousands of community members to demand a halt to the implementation of SB 1070 and an immediate end to the displacement of immigrants from our communities.

On Tuesday, April 27th, more than 800 people, including nearly a hundred Causa Justa members and staff, rallied outside of Wells Fargo’s annual shareholder meeting. The action was part of a national effort to hold big banks accountable by holding mass protests from the Bay Area to Wall Street. Together community organizations, labor and faith groups are calling on big banks to take responsibility for the crisis that they created and to reinvest in neighborhoods and communities that have been hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis.
