Help Our Communities Be Counted!

YWC_Logo_ColorCensus teams to hit the streets this month!

Causa Justa :: Just Cause will be launching its first ever cross-bay program on March 17th! Our census outreach program will be hitting the streets in both Oakland and San Francisco. Our paid teams, along our members and volunteers, will be going door to door and phone banking to outreach to our community about the importance of filling out the census forms. We will be contacting people in East and West Oakland and in San Francisco’s Mission and Excelsior districts.

Our communities have been historically undercounted by the census even though the census is an important vehicle through which low-income people, communities of color, undocumented immigrants and formerly incarcerated persons can affect decisions that will impact not only their community, but the U.S. as a whole. Census data is used to apportion the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, allocate the number of electors to the Electoral College, and re-draw political districts lines. We can’t miss this opportunity to include people that are typically left behind and ensure they are properly represented in local, state and federal governments.

Help us make sure African-American and Latino people get the resources our communities need and deserve! There are opportunities to join the Oakland volunteer outreach team beginning March 18th and the San Francisco team beginning on March 26th. For more information or to sign up for a shift, please contact Princess Beverly (Oakland) at Beverly@cjjc.org or Lucia (San Francisco) at Lucia@cjjc.org.
